Contemporary Collage

Attendees will learn how to combine visual elements to create a new image that conveys a message or idea. The workshop will focus on basic elements of composition, selecting images and how to juxtapose them, surface preparation, and how to create a collage/photomontage.

While we provide all the required materials for this project, we highly recommend that attendees bring meaningful images they'd like to work with. They can be from magazines, newspapers, postcards, advertisements or old photos.


Deconstructed Art Journals

Do you have leftover notebooks that need a new purpose? Bring it to life as a Deconstructed Art Journal! Come transform a plain composition book with vintage images, fabrics, postcards, and other surprises. LaVera Wilson will teach a variety of fun and easy techniques using everyday items and art supplies uniquely and creatively. Bring in photos, poems, or drawings (or get inspired by SCRAP materials) and we will incorporate them into the pockets, tucks, and windows of your journal. Create a one of a kind embellished work of art to treasure for years to come.



Intro to Stained Glass

This is your sign to get into stained glass! Join Christine Preziosi for an introductory glass workshop. Christine will show you all the main tools of the trade and you'll walk away with a spring time honeycomb stained glass piece. All glass will be precut so you can focus on understanding materials and techniques.


DIY Stuffies

Join us for a cozy intergenerational workshop creating something out of anything! Lee Materazzi will be coleading this workshop with her daughters Mia and Brooke to inspire you to create DIY stuffies! In this workshop, participants will learn different approaches to making a stuffed animal that are perfect for any age group. Bring a parent, a cousin, a little one, or just bring yourself! Come ready to play with fabric scraps, foam, and patterns!


Free Teacher Workshop: Creative Reuse in your Afterschool Program

Afterschool and out-of-school teachers, are you looking for simple, joyful, practical creativity infusions for your K-5th grade students? Join us at SCRAP as we explore creative reuse as a tool for decreasing stress, increasing student engagement, and adding quick hands-on elements to your teaching. We will discuss managing materials without a homebase, creating time-flexible opportunities for some students to go deep, and classroom management tools that minimize chaos and maximize learning.


Our Free Teacher Workshops qualify as Prop G Hours!

Collage

Using SCRAP magazines, paper and found photographs students will be given guidance and instruction on repurposing found materials to create new portraits and landscapes. Mitsu will take students through the aisles of SCRAP and show them his process for choosing materials--tips and tricks for what raw materials work well for collage.
