15 Jul 2010 Mosaic Workshop w/ Jane Schafgans
Saturdays, Aug 7 & 14th, 1-4pm fee: $40 + $5 material fee
Whether you have done some mosaics before and need some inspiration, or are just starting out and need instruction, you won’t want to miss this workshop! During this two part workshop you will be using mastic (tile adhesive) and various tiles and vitreous glass to create your design with. If you are a beginning student, you will be working on a square tile. If you are a more advanced student, you may bring in something of your own to mosaic. In the first class you will learn techniques for applying tile to a variety of surfaces. You will have the opportunity to create and execute a piece of you own design. The second class will be devoted to the process of grouting. This is always an exciting class, as Jane is an experienced mosaic artist and teacher, and working with tile is a very tactile and visually stimulating experience! The colors are yummy and the results are extremely rewarding!
Jane has been working with mosaics for about 7 years. The minute she learned how to work in this medium, she fell in love with it. Jane likes to work with color, both in glass and tile. She loves how it enhances any space it occupies. Jane’s work is primarily privately owned, with the exception of some permanent installations at two public schools, where she has worked extensively with elementary school children. The San Francisco public schools where you can find Jane’s work are Lakeshore and Gordon Lau Elementary Schools.
