We are thrilled to share that SCRAP is embarking on an exciting journey: we are looking for a new home!
For the past 25 years, the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has generously provided us with affordable rent, allowing us to serve the community with accessible and affordable materials. However, with our lease coming up, it’s time for us to move forward. Finding a forever home is an incredible opportunity but also presents challenges.
Over the last six months, we have laid the groundwork to face these challenges: defining our real estate and financial parameters and developing key relationships. With your support, we’re confident we can overcome these challenges and secure SCRAP’s future in San Francisco.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
10,000 + sq. ft.
Located in San Francisco
Parking: Dedicated lot, street parking or proximity to public garage
Desirable Features: loading dock, alley for donation drop-off, roll-up doors, high ceilings, workshop area.
Restrooms for staff and public
Supportive landlord willing to work creatively within our parameters.
HOW TO HELP
We know the SCRAP community is a dynamic community and we are looking for creative ideas of what our new home could look like. Given our pressing timeline, our current priority is to seek:

Creative Ideas: Do you have a creative idea for our new space?
"...Along a gritty, industrialized path in Bayview, hidden among numerous auto-body shops, construction companies and shipping facilities, lies a seemingly nondescript warehouse. If you take a closer look, it’s lined with plastic pink flamingos and painted in bright rainbow colors. Inside, it’s a time capsule.
SCRAP, a nonprofit and legacy business, has been selling everything from miscellaneous family photos from the 1990s to a large selection of paper maps from around the world. Next year, it will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
But its party will have to be held elsewhere.
SCRAP will likely lose its $1,000 monthly lease on 2150 Newcomb Ave. next June. After that, the warehouse is scheduled to be rebuilt by its landlord, the San Francisco Unified School District, to house a new central kitchen for the entire district.
SCRAP is now searching to buy its “forever home” — at market rates in San Francisco..."
