Workshops can take place at SCRAP’s San Francisco facility or be hosted on-site at your workplace or event space.
Transform old images from magazines, vintage ephemera and found materials! By bringing two images together, what kind of new image can you make? No creative experience is required for your team to get in touch with their inner creative child. Design principles and approaches to problem solving are discussed. Team collage is also available. Let’s make collage work for your team!
Learn about printing with gelli plates, an easy DIY printmaking process! We will learn how to create textures and layers with gelli plates and household and natural materials, as well as how to transfer images from magazines. The gelli plates we will be using do not contain any animal products and are non-toxic. Join us to explore this fun and open-ended printmaking process!
Discover the magic of watercolor in this hands-on workshop. Explore foundational watercolor techniques like washes, wet to wet blends, dry brush, layer and the meditative process of free-form expression, relaxation and creative flow.
Sashiko - which translates to little stabs - is an embroidery technique developed in the Edo period in Japan. It became not only a decorative practice, but one that was used to mend and repair clothing. In this workshop mixed media artist, author, and educator Lisa Solomon will demonstrate how to give your clothes a new life and extend their use. This class will offer a great way to think about sustainability, slow fashion and working with your hands in a meaningful and creative way.
Our most popular workshop for corporate groups! Stuffed animals are the ultimate comfort object, and many of us save them for decades or pass them on to the next generation. They are soft talismans that can be enjoyed and appreciated by curious makers of all ages. Don’t sew? No problem! We will demonstrate the magic of a glue gun.
Local artist and educator Sebastian Petersen leads attendees in a fun (yet safe!) workshop making MOVING wooden toys. This workshop focuses on using sustainable wood materials, often old vintage toys and blocks from simpler times- to create wooden characters and mini sculptures with basic movement abilities. The workshop is for ages 8+ and minors should have an adult in attendance. Adults are also encouraged to attend for inner child purposes.
SCRAP diverts 250 tons of material from the waste stream each year, but this requires a lot of sorting and organizing of everything from crayons to vintage posters, family photographs to beads and buttons.
SCRAP is partnered with the San Francisco Public School District and our SCRAP-in-a-Box programs support students in underserved communities. Spend a half-day with your group at SCRAP assembling, processing and producing the art kits that add creativity to the lives of children who don’t have easy access to arts enrichment.
Help us clean and beautify our outdoor area. Spend a half-day with your group cleaning up the adjacent street to SCRAP and beautifying our outdoor yard. We have a small outdoor area that we are seeking to transform into a community garden and outdoor maker space.
